Taare Zameen Par, A Must Watch!

Finally a movie that isn’t a Hollywood rip-off! Having just watched Taare Zameen Par, Ballz is putting away the tissues for a moment to give you the low-down on a film that lives up to its expectations and even exceeds them!

Aamir Khan’s masterpiece is a story of eight year old Ishaan Awasthi (brilliantly portrayed by Darsheel Safary), a child suffering from Dyslexia (a learning disorder). The movie traces his struggle to fit in with other children his age.

His incapability of grasping his studies leads his teachers to believe he’s nothing but a bull-headed little brat with an attitude to be punished. His parents played by Tisca Chopra and Vipin Sharma don’t make life any easier for him when they send him packing to a boarding school to be harassed some more and sink into an almost catatonic state, before he’s eventually saved by a substitute art teacher, Ram (Aamir Khan).

Darsheel Safary‘s performance is simply mind-blowing. He awoke so many emotions in us, from anger towards his surrounding to sympathy towards him while we fought this lump in our throat that had been there for the longest time. All this based solely on Ishaan’s expressions and body language!

Without giving too much away, TZP has its gripping moments. We would be lying if we said that the movie does not lag a bit here and there. But we’re willing to ignore that considering the fact that this is Aamir’s directorial debut with rather nobel intentions.

Long story short, If you’ve had it with Bollywood’s buckets of glycerine tears and miles of jangling bangles and jiggling bellies, click on the video below for a breath of fresh air!

I must say that this movie has taken me back in time.
When i first read about this movie i was sure that it would not be true to what a child suffering from Dyslexia would feel, and that it would make fun of the topic. However Mr Aamir Khan’s directorial debut has left me feeling a number of things. And the Best feeling is Proud! I am so Proud of Mr Khan. As a child suffering from Dyslexia myself (and yes i even was sent to borading school in India) all my feels and Pain and not being understood came rushing back and i could see myself there as Ishaan. Mr Khan I wish you all the best and THANK YOU for making such a true movie.
    Regards
